40 minutes drive from Dublin City, the Wicklow Mountain would be in a shortlist for the “Irish Best Day Trip Award”, if there was one.
The long walk round the mountain takes some 4 hours but it is worth the effort.
Cascades, ruins of an ancient settlement, an astonishing view of the lake from the top of the mountain, and finally a refreshing walk into the forest in which a long wooden staircase was built to make the descent easier.
Tip: If you start from the left path you will have to go upstairs through the woods. Then you are likely to be too tired to appreciate the landscape when you emerge from it. So do it counter clockwise and you’ll be fine.
